"Mangere Bridge:
seaside village in the city..."
Mangere Bridge Village is located on a peninsula in the Manukau Harbour (Auckland, New Zealand), with the green backdrop of Mangere Mountain, an extinct volcano, and Ambury Farm Park. It boasts history, with one of the oldest stone churches in New Zealand, and has a tight-knit community with a friendly and non-pretentious village atmosphere. It is close to Auckland Airport, without being under the noisy flight path and its central location and good bus service means that within 20 mins you can be in the CBD, shopping at St Lukes or Manukau or relaxing at Mission Bay.
The Village is well serviced by a thriving shopping centre offering essential services such as supermarket, bank, pharmacy etc. There is a library, preschool and 3 excellent primary schools and churches. There are several cafes and takeaways, serving a wide range of foods and in summer the main street is host to a number of bands, enhancing your dining experience.
Zoning for intermediate and secondary schooling reflects the strong historic links with Onehunga and Royal Oak and school busses take the children across the Manukau Harbour.
Mangere Bridge has a strong community with several organisations and clubs. (see 'Things to Do' and 'What's On'). Volunteers maintain the colourful hanging baskets in the main street and many also give a few hours of their time to help in the community constable's office and/or take turns running the community volunteer patrol vehicle. This website and the local newsletter are also the result of volunteer efforts. The time given by locals is a clear indication of just how much people care about their Mangere Bridge community.
