In this Issue:

:: Website one year old

The Mangere Bridge Community website is out of nappies (in internet years anyway), and recently celebrated its first year on the web. It has been an exciting year for the development team, Peter and Anny Dentener. Peter has found setting up and maintaining the web site very gratifying: "Having lived in Mangere Bridge for over 20 years, I am still finding out new things about the area. It is great talking to the locals, and hearing their stories".

The web site aims to cover the Mangere Bridge area. But as Peter explains: "We know that there is a strong historic link between Mangere Bridge and Onehunga, and we would like this to come through on the site. We therefore welcome listings for activities in Onehunga that we think Mangere Bridge residents would like to know about".

Since its launch on 13 April 2004, the Community website has been visited almost 6,000 times in its first year, with the number of visits growing from month to month. It has received a mention in the Aucklander (South Edition) and the Manukau Courier, and has been linked to from several other websites.

:: And then there are the interviews

Curious what the Mangere Mountain Education Centre is all about, read the interview with Wayne Knox, Education Co-ordinator. Val Payne from the Mangere Historical Society has some interesting comments about preserving our history; we visited an Ambury Regional Park tree planting day; talked to Mangere Bridge’s own beekeeper; and told you about the new Watercare coastal walkway.

Coming up: some good news on low burglary statistics for Mangere Bridge. All this and more can be found [here] (www.mangerebridge.co.nz/Articles.html).

:: Is your business, club or organisation listed on the Community website?

The Community website was set up to provide news and information for and about the local community. It also provides listings of organisations and businesses in the area. If you are not listed, or your listing is incorrect, please send us an [email] (peter.dentener@mangerebridge.co.nz).

:: Wanted: Your news

Let us know by [email] (peter.dentener@mangerebridge.co.nz) when your school, club or organisation is organising something of interest to the Mangere Bridge community.

:: Become part of Mangere Bridge Virtual Village

Improve your business’ or organisation’s visibility and join the Mangere Bridge Virtual Village. Paid extended listings or web pages hosted off the Community website provide you with the opportunity to promote your web, expanding your reach far beyond that of a newspaper ad or flyer.

Our Virtual Village is growing with extended listings for Adecron Food Tech Consulting, Harcourts, SDS Design, Wizard Home Loans, Barfoot & Thompson, The Gardening Lady, Bridge Men and Manukau Yacht & Motor Boat Club. And Playcentre Mangere Bridge now has 2 sponsored web pages to share their fun and enthusiasm about pre-school education.

Please check the following link to see what they say about their extended listing: [feedback] (www.mangerebridge.co.nz/feedback/html#Extended).

Be an early adopter, and at the same time support the (volunteer) efforts of the website development team with your advertising. Paid extended listings and web pages make it possible to keep the Community website running, up to date, and a valuable community resource. Please send us an [email] (peter.dentener@mangerebridge.co.nz) with your details and any questions you may have.

:: Feedback

We always look for feedback on the content of the Community web site and this newsletter, and enjoy your emails. Please keep sending us your feedback.

That’s it this time from the development team.

Please send this email in its entirety to others who may be interested. Don't forget to point out the website to family and friends so they can also see what a great place Mangere Bridge is.

Would like your own newsletter, please use this [link] (peter.dentener@mangerebridge.co.nz).
