Another exciting event is planned in Onehunga this year to celebrate International Day of the Older Person (IDOP) and our own local name for this is ‘Prime Time’. An exciting array of performances is being planned which will take place at Pearce St Hall from 12.30 to 3.30 on Friday 1 October and these will include cultural items, dance, Waiata singing and poetry. Afternoon tea will be provided and there will be musical entertainment whilst this is happening.
In addition to the concert on 1 October, Prime Time will also be celebrated by artworks from various local artists and this is being called the ‘Evergreen Art Exhibition’. There will be artworks displayed in the Onehunga Community Centre and Library foyer from the afternoon of Friday 24 September until Friday 1 October.
This year’s Prime Time will also have information stalls on a range of activities and services for the older person and these will also be displayed in the library/community foyer from Monday 27 September until Friday 1 October.
Prime Time this year promises to be an entertaining, informative and interactive celebration and all of which aims to reflect and affirm the value of the older person within Onehunga and adjoining areas.
Please come and join us to share in this celebration.

The Sunshine Walk is an opportunity to get your girlfriends together and start the
Day by walking whilst raising much needed funds for Hospice South Auckland.
The DHB partially funds our service; however this year we must raise $2.68 million to cover
operational and capital costs. We hope the inaugural Sunrise Walk for Hospice will contribute
towards these costs. Ladies, you will be helping to keep our doors open and our services free!
The Sunrise Walk for Hospice isn’t a race. Whilst it is for both walkers and runners, the spirit is one of friendship and support for each other. There will be a choice of walking or running approximately
5km or 10kms as individuals or as teams through the beautiful Auckland Botanical Gardens and
Totara Park in Manurewa. We will raise funds by collecting registration fees and through
participant sponsorships.
Every team and individual entered in the Sunrise Walk has the chance to win some great prizes!
There’s a major travel package, heaps of spot prizes, plus a spending spree to be won!
