:: Happy birthday, Waterlea School! (15 September 2005)
Birthdays are memorable but as we get older they may become less important. Not so for Waterlea School which celebrates its 50th with a big Jubilee in the weekend of 28 October 2005.

:: Record number of visitors to Community web site (22 August 2005)
There must have been something special in the (cyber) air because in the week of 18-24 July the Community web site received a record number of visits for that week, 579 to be precise. OK, we'll own up, it wasn't in the air but in the Aucklander (South Edition). (download full article - 32kb)
:: Local business finalist in Business Excellence Awards (10 August 2005)
Mangere Bridge based Judith Whyman Wedding Gowns is a finalist for the Excellence in Retail Awards, one of nine Westpac Manukau Business Excellence Awards. :: Mangere Historical Society learns of the Life of Governesses (3 August 2005)
The Mangere East Selwyn Church Hall was full on 19 July for the monthly meeting of the Mangere Historical Society. The speaker was Shirley Furnell who has researched her family history, following the family of George and Pamela Rust and their five daughters. (download full article - 33kb)

:: Mouse clicks earn bottle of wine (14 July 2005)
Filling in an on-line survey has earned Sepali Naus a nice bottle of wine. Sepali, who owns the Mangere Floral Studio on Coronation Road, Mangere Bridge, responded to an invitation to fill in an on-line survey about people′s web site needs. Several mouse clicks later, Sepali went into the draw with many others, and emerged the lucky winner. [download full article - 42kb]
:: Mangere Bridge Village turning into Food Court (29 June 2005)
Eating out in Mangere Bridge 10 years ago consisted of fish and chips, or Chinese, and was take-away. These days locals and visitors alike can treat their taste buds to a variety of ethnic and European foods, and in European style sit outside in a buzzing shopping area. [More - 27kb]
:: Good news on burglary statistics (17 May 2005)
Mangere Bridge, a tight-knit community with a friendly and non-pretentious atmosphere near the Manukau Harbour, has now been shown to be a pretty safe place to live when it comes to burglaries. Open a newspaper or turn on the news on TV or radio and we are bombarded with ‘bad news’. So here is something positive. [More - 32kb]
:: Former All Black drops in (April 2005)
Mangere Bridge may not feature highly on the national rugby circuit but that did not stop former All Black first five-eighths Grant Fox from dropping in at the Village on Saturday 2 April. Grant Fox was in Mangere Bridge to open the Wizard Home Loans branch on Coronation Rd, run by local Wizard Wayne Dale. [More - 57kb]
:: Watercare Coastal Walkway opened (March 2005)
Watercare’s Coastal Walk Open day on 12 March was so well attended that parking was hard to find. Insect specialist and Forest and Bird deputy president Dr Peter Maddison hosted guided walks in the area, discussing the area’s history and its fauna and flora. [More - 41kb]

:: Dog walkers turn out in large numbers (July 2004)
Concerned dog owners and walkers gathered at either end of Kiwi Esplanade on Sunday afternoon, 18 July. Their annoyance with the Manukau City Council draft dog policy (changing dog access status in several areas) was obvious as they voiced their protest to those they were walking with. [More - 24 kb]
:: Start recording your local history! (July 2004)
That is the message Val Payne from the Mangere Historical Society wanted to get across recently at her well attended talk at the Mangere Bridge Library. "Put names on the back of photos, record dates and location". [More - 24 kb)
:: ARC tree planting at Ambury Regional Park (June 2004)
The weather fully co-operated at the recent tree planting in Ambury Park, and so did those who came to support the Auckland Regional Council rangers. Aucklanders were invited to pick up their spades and help plant native trees. [More - 22kb]
:: Wayne Knox ("Big plans for Mangere Mountain Education Centre" (May 2004)
The Mangere Mountain Education Centre (Te Whare Akorangao Te Pane o Mataoho) has big plans for the future, according to Education Co-ordinator Wayne Knox. Schools from all over Auckland (and beyond) visit the Centre to learn about Mangere Mountain's history, geology and botany. [More - 26kb]
